Danimarca e Cinema!

Bille August, Lars Von Trier, Susanne Bier, Thomas Vinterberg, Mads Mikkelsen… sono solo alcuni dei grandi nomi del cinema danese. A questi possiamo aggiungere gli attori che hanno raggiunto fama internazionale grazie ad un ruolo in alcune grandi serie (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, conosciuto come Jamie Lannister del Trono di Spade, o Alex Høgh, meglio conosciuto come Ivar The Boneless in Vikings, ed infine Johan Philip Asbæk conosciuto in tutto il mondo come Euron Greyjoy sempre nel Trono di Spade). Ma non voglio farvi una lista di nomi del cinema danese, ma piuttosto consigliarvi cinque film danesi che mi sono piaciuti molto, tutti diversi l’uno dall’altro.

In un mondo migliore (Hævnen) –  Premio Golden Globe per il migliore film straniero nel 2011, è la storia di due famiglie danesi che si incrociano, di un’amicizia rischiosa e di rancori famigliari che vengono a galla. È uno di quei film che mi hanno fatto piangere come una bambina e che rimangono impressi nella mente per molto tempo.

Royal affair (En kongelig affære) – Film storico con Mads Mikkelsen e Alicia Vikander, narra la storia del medico tedesco Struensee, che grazie all’incredibile influenza che esercita sul re di Danimarca e alla sua relazione clandestina con la regina Matilde, riesce a mettere in moto una rivoluzione che cambierà la Danimarca per sempre. È uno dei miei film storici preferiti, se amate il genere è da vedere assolutamente!

Il sospetto (Jagten) – un maestro d’asilo (Mads Mikkelsen) conduce una vita solitaria, ma quando tutto sembra andare per il meglio, una innocente bugia cambierà completamente la sua vita. È un film che tratta alcune tematiche delicate, quali la pedofilia e le accuse ingiuste, e che lascia decisamente l’amaro in bocca.

Love is all you need (Den skaldede frisør) – Una parrucchiera (Trine Dyrholm), che ha perso tutti i capelli a seguito di un cancro, scopre che il marito la tradisce, ma a seguito di un viaggio in Italia per il matrimonio della figlia, troverà una nuova persona da amare (Pierce Brosnan). Commedia romantica per gli inguaribili romantici, film ben fatto e grandi attori. Lo consiglio davvero di cuore!

Le mele di Adamo (Adams æbler) – Adam è un neonazista che deve trascorrere un periodo di riabilitazione presso la parrocchia tenuta dal pastore protestante Ivan. La parrocchia ha già due ospiti: Gunnar, un ex tennista alcolizzato, e Khalid, un arabo fondamentalista rapinatore. Film unico nel suo genere e pieno di humor danese, quindi humor nero e molto cupo. Lo consiglio a tutti coloro che vogliono vedere qualcosa di diverso!

Denmark and Cinema! 

Bille August, Lars Von Trier, Susanne Bier, Thomas Vinterberg, Mads Mikkelsen… these are some of the great names of the Danish cinema. We can also add all those Danish actors who got international fame for a role in some of the most famous tv-series – Nikolaj Coster-Waldau or Jamie Lannister in Game of thrones, Alex Høgh, known as Ivar The Boneless in Vikings, Johan Philip Asbæk or Euron Greyjoy of Game of thrones. However, I don’t want to make a list of all the famous Danish actors, but I want to recommend five Danish movies that I really like. So here they are…

In a better world (Hævnen) – Golden Globe winner in 2011 as best Foreign Language film, it tells the story of two families whose lives intertwine and of a risky friendship that will end in tragedy. I cried like a child after seeing this movie, it’s tragic but outstanding, and one that lingers in your mind.

A Royal Affair (En kongelig affære) – It is an historical movie starring Mads Mikkelsen and Alicia Vikander. It tells the story of the German physician Struensee, who had an affair with Queen Mathilde and who had a powerful influence over the king of Denmark. He used this influence to start a revolution that changed the country forever. One of my favourite historical movies, a must-see if you like the genre!

The Hunt (Jagten) – A teacher at a nursery school lives quite a lonely life, but as soon as his life seems to get better, an innocent lie changes everything. The movie deals with some crucial themes, as the protagonist is unjustly accused of being a pedophile and is publicly ostracised. It’s a good movie, but it will leave you with a bitter taste in your mouth.

Love is all you need (Den Skaldede frisør) – a hairdresser who has lost all her hair after cancer discovers that her husband is cheating on her, but after a trip to Italy she meets a new man to love. A must-see if you are in the mood for some romance!

Adam’s apples (Adams æbler) – The Neo-Nazi Adam takes part in a rehabilitation program, where he joins the aggressive Saudi robber Khalid and the kleptomaniac rapist Gunnar. The community is headed by the priest Ivan, who believes firmly and blindly in the goodness of men. This is a movie which is profoundly based on black humour, I would recommend it if you are looking for something different to watch!
